The Village of Saint Jean D'aulps
Situated in the heart of the Vallée d’Aulps, the village of Saint Jean d’Aulps has inherited its name from the old French word for “alpage”, meaning high mountain pasture. Thanks to its abbey and the monks who lived there, Saint Jean d’Aulps lays claim to be the ancestor of the surrounding villages in the Vallée d’Aulps.
With the growth of the skiing industry, Saint Jean d’Aulps has also become an important winter sports resort destination. It offers many natural advantages for skiers and snowboarders, including the famous Roc d’Enfer circuit. The ski resort has an excellent snow record, and is an integral part of the Portes du Soleil. The village has it’s own slopes and is very close to the areas of Morzine and Avoriaz.

The Portes De Soleil Ski Area
The Portes du Soleil has been one of the biggest players in world skiing for the last 40 years, with 12 linked resorts either side of the French-Swiss border. This wonderland at the heart of the Alps offers our guests unspoilt surroundings with 280 exceptionally efficient lifts, snowbound forests and over 650 km of pistes with an average of 8m of powder snow falling every year. The season starts around mid-November and lasts to the end of April.
